Vietnamese New Year customs

Wishing New Year’s greetings and giving away red envelopes

The first day of the new year is reserved for visiting family and relatives and wishing each other.

According to the customs, everyone both younger and older people go up with ages when the New Year comes. So, younger people say a greeting to their grandparents, parents and older people on the first day of Tet; older people give away sealed red envelopes (filled with lucky money) to younger people. According to old customs, lucky money should be the change means that they would be developed more. The custom is called Li Xi.

During Tet, the relatives and friends go to visit and wish New Year’s greetings to each other; then put the offerings to ancestral altar. Nowadays, the custom is less popular because of limit of time and distance. Instead, they send each other the greeting cards “Happy New Year”.

The departure and picking buds of the New Year

Vietnamese people have the custom of departure for finding luck on New Year’s Day. Before departing, they have to choose the date, time and good direction carefully so that they can meet the God of Wealth, God of Happiness…

Normally, they depart following the good directions to go to pagoda, temple or go to visit grandparents, relatives and friends. For old farmer, departure of the New Year is to forecast the weather. On New Year’s Day, when the sun rises, they depart to know the way of the wind’s blowing then they can forecast how new year is, lucky or not.

For pagoda or temple visit, after performing a ritual offering to the God, Vietnamese people have the custom of picking buds for luck. It is called “hai loc”.

Bud is a small branch of banyan tree, cactus… which are in bud and fresh all year around. Picking buds in the pagoda, temple means that they can receive the best in new year. The picked bud is put in ancestral altar of each family.

Chúc Tết và mừng tuổi

Sáng sớm mồng một Tết hay ngày “Chính đán”, mọi sinh hoạt ngừng lại, các con cháu tụ họp ở nhà tộc trưởng để lễ Tổ tiên chúc Tết ông bà, các bậc huynh trưởng và mừng tuổi lẫn nhau.

Theo tục lệ, cứ năm mới tới, kể cả người lớn lẫn trẻ con, mỗi người tự nhiên tăng lên một tuổi. Bởi vậy ngày mồng một Tết là ngày con cháu “chúc thọ” ông bà và các bậc cao niên; và người lớn thì “mừng tuổi” trẻ em một cách cụ thể bằng những đồng tiền mới bỏ trong những “phong bao”. Tục này ở Việt Nam quen gọi là “lì xì”. Tiền mừng tuổi nhận được trong ngày Tết gọi là “Tiền mở hàng”. Xưa còn có lệ cho tiền phong bao với số tiền lẻ (chứ không phải là tiền chẵn), ngụ ý tiền này sẽ sinh sôi nảy nở thêm nhiều.

Về chúc Tết, trong ba ngày Tết, những thân bằng quyến thuộc hoặc nhữngngười phải chịu ơn người khác thường phải đi chúc Tết và mừng tuổi gia chủ; sau đó xin lễ ở bàn thờ Tổ tiên của gia chủ. Tục này ngày nay ít còn, vì thì giờ eo hẹp, đường sá xa xôi cho nên đã được thay thế bằng những tấm thiệp “Chúc Mừng Năm mới” hay “Cung Chúc Tân Xuân”.

Xuất hành và hái lộc

Đầu năm mới, người Việt Nam còn có tục xuất hành. Xuất hành là đi ra khỏi nhà trong ngày đầu năm để đi tìm cái may mắn cho mình và gia đình. Trước khi xuất hành, người ta phải chọn ngày, giờ và các phương hướng tốt để mong gặp được các quý thần, tài thần, hỉ thần…

Thường thường, người ta theo các hướng tốt, xuất hành đi lễ chùa, đền hoặc đi chúc Tết các bậc huynh trưởng, thân quyến hay bằng hữu. Đối với nhà nông ngày xưa, đầu năm mới xuất hành còn để chiêm nghiệm thời tiết. Vào những ngày đầu năm, khi mặt trời mọc, người ta đi ra khỏi nhà xem chiều gió thổi và có thể đoán được năm mới hên hay xui.

Nếu xuất hành ra chùa hay đền, sau khi lễ bái, người Việt Nam còn có tục bẻ lấy một “cành lộc” để mang về nhà lấy may, lấy phước. Đó là tục “hái lộc”.

Cành lộc là một cành đa nhỏ hay cành đề, cành xi, cây xương rồng… là những loại cây quanh năm tươi tốt và nẩy lộc. Tục hái lộc ở các nơi đền, chùa ngụ ý xin hưởng chút lộc của Thần, Phật ban cho nhân năm mới. Cành lộc này thường đem về cắm ở bàn thờ Tổ tiên.

On 1st and 2nd of December, DIGI-TEXX Ltd. has taken part in the “Vietnamese Information Technology products and services” (VIBRAND) exhibition. It was held at Quang Trung Software City, with the participation of 35 Information Technology (IT) companies, to introduce more than 100 kinds of product, different services, which have attracted more than 1000 visitors.

Come to this exhibition with the slogan “Professional Solutions for digitization”, DIGI-TEXX has showed and introduced to visitors the strength of their services in professional business process outsourcing, such as document scanning, data capturing and conversion, image processing and Ebook Development.

An attractive booth along with the eye catching way of display has caught the attention of many visitors. Especially, in this exhibition, DIGI-TEXX has showed and introduced their new services, book digitization, Ebook Development and image processing. The visitors expressed their interest in those services. This is very encouraging signal for DIGI-TEXX to continue growing and improving their business.

This program is jointly organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication and Quang Trung Software City Development Company. This is expected to be an annual activity to implement the task of promoting and developing IT in order to make Vietnam become a strong country in the IT Industry.

DIGI-TEXX successfully finished processing scanning Project for Sophie Paris

In September of 2011, DIGI-TEXX signed the contract with Sophie Paris Vietnam to process a scanning project with the total amount of 20,000 contracts. This project was processed “offsite” in 1 week, at the office of DIGI-TEXX.

Now, for the domestic market, especially in the document scanning service segment, besides the short-term projects such as Sophie Paris, DIGI-TEXX also made some long-term projects, such as up to 3 years contracts. This is a very positive signal to DIGI-TEXX in particular and for Vietnamese digital services market in general, as more and more customers use digital services as an integral part of their business process.

 

DIGI-TEXX developed tax declaration automatic identifying software

In the middle of October 2011, DIGI- TEXX started develop the first four forms of the tax return document classifying software at Binh Tan tax bureaus. This is a software developing project to classify 16 regular tax forms of enterprises.

The main function of the software is classifying the document type and identifying the tax code based on the technology of optical character recognition (OCR). In addition, this software is a storage management system with functions such as searching and synchronization between the original and the digitized document as well as assigning access rights.

The project is part of the strategy “tax branch modernization” of the Binh Tan tax department. The goal of this strategy is convert all the records of tax return in to digitized data, in order to optimize the document management and storage. According to the plan, DIGI-TEXX will officially complete the software development with all the required forms of the tax department by the beginning of 2012.

DIGI-TEXX starts implementing digitizing project of over 100.000 archive library cards

On 22nd of September, 2011, DIGI-TEXX has officially started processing a new digitizing project for a big library in middle of Europe. The forecasted duration for this project will be 4.5 months with the amount of more than 100.000 catalog cards.

The requirement of this project is keying information from handwritten catalog cards to serves the purpose of management, archiving and searching books.

Besides having the basic skills in library projects, specific skills are required to work in this project. The operators must have experience to recognize old style German handwritten and know how to classify different type of cards.

Vào ngày 31 tháng 08, Công đoàn cơ sở DIGI-TEXX đã trao tặng hơn 100 phần quà bánh trung thu đến tất cả công đoàn viên.

Đây là hoạt động thường niên của DIGI-TEXX, với mục đích mang lại nhiều niềm vui hơn nữa cho công đoàn viên  và gia đình, đồng thời tạo ra không khí ngày hội trăng rằm trong công ty.Bên cạnh hoạt động này, Ban chấp hành công đoàn DIGI-TEXX còn tổ chức và tạo điều kiện cho công đoàn viên tham gia các hoạt động khác như Ngày Quốc tế Phụ nữ, Hội thao Quang Trung, trao quà cuối năm…

“Chúng tôi hi vọng rằng những món quà nhỏ này có thể mang đến bầu không khí vui vẻ và ấm áp cho công đoàn viên nhân dịp Tết Trung thu này” – Ông Nguyễn Minh Tuấn, chủ tịch công đoàn DIGI-TEXX chia sẻ.

Tết Trung Thu theo Âm lịch là ngày Rằm tháng 8 hằng năm. Đây là ngày tết của trẻ em, còn được gọi là Tết trông Trăng hay Tết Thiếu nhi, Tết Nhi đồng, ra đời tại Việt Nam [Theo Wikipedia].

Trẻ em rất mong đợi được đón tết này vì thường được người lớn tặng đồ chơi, thường là đèn ông sao, mặt nạ, đèn kéo quân, súng phun nước… rồi bánh nướng, bánh dẻo. Vào ngày tết này, người ta tổ chức bày cỗ, trông trăng. Thời điểm trăng lên cao, trẻ em sẽ vừa múa hát vừa ngắm trăng phá cỗ. Ở một số nơi người ta còn tổ chức múa lân, múa sư tử, múa rồng để các em vui chơi thoả thích.

DIGI-TEXX company trip 2011

The weekend on 27.08-28.08.2011 DIGI-TEXX has organized the 9th company trip with the participation of around 150 employees from all departments and their family. The trip this year was held at Doi Du Resort in Ham Thuan Nam-Phan Thiet. This area is famous for its nice beach and activities for body and soul. This is a annunal activitie and one of the welfare policies for employees of DIGI-TEXX. The trip is not just a vacation but it’s also an occasion to improve the team spirit with team building activities such as: how to build and development a team as well as the ability to promote teamwork, communication skills … Besides the games can also arouse motivation and pride in each individual to aim towards the general target of the company “. The benefits policy of the company for employees including: Company trip for the whole company or for a project group, travel for excellent staff. In addition, there are also regular annual events have been identified such as: Company Anniversary, Year-end party …

This year the main slogan of the trip is: “Do Your Best, the rest will come’, with this slogan BOM wants to transmit the message: “try the best ability and the success will come to everyone.”

From an employee’s aspect, the organization, accommodation, catering and team building games are improved compared with then last year. All had the chance to relax after a year contributing to the success of the company.
